Nope, be because I wasn't familiar with wt history or methods, even tho I was a Jw and actually taught 1984 as a senior English teacher! I was too busy working and running the meeting treadmill to even compare the text with life. I was like Parsons, trying to do my bit for the Party. It took me until I had a couple of months to,sit and research that I became like Winston, and now I'm avoiding O'Brien and keeping away from Miniluv.

The sad thing is, writing like this is the only acceptable outlet for many JWs who like to write. Any other writing would be considered a waste of tile since it does not result directly in more hours in the ministry.

Hey thanks guys. Yes, chilling is the plan. If he feels the need to pop to a meeting down the track I won't stop him out of respect. I think that's a big thing.
Also, the fact we have no family in helps because we don't risk losing them. He didn't really have anyone in the congregation he considered a friend, and although he speaks well of people and only sees the good, he doesn't seem to miss them. My father and brother have been providing him with male company and their support has helped.

How to structure a good argument: back up your points with evidence. In this case, Bobcat uses scriptures and examples from original languages to provide evidence to support her/his assertions. The information is linked and properly referenced (scriptures cited etc). WIN.
A watcher, you bring up points too, but without the part of evidence and application Bobcat makes, it comes across as religious dogmatism. Saying something is doesn't make it so. A convincing argument of this nature needs scriptures to back it up.

We were all brainwashed at some stage so we must feel compassionate towards these people, especially the ones who are innocent victims such as younguns raised that way and others drawn in by promises of paradise who are so far entangled they've lost themselves...
On the other hand, there are those who thrive in such an environment, and though they are few, the really obnoxious ones serve to push the nice ones towards the ttatt.

I don't feel comfortable in asking him why he doesn't go to meetings anymore for some reason, or find out what he believes and if the things I've told him bout ttatt influenced his decision. Some of it may have to do with how stressed I've gotten when elders and COs have rocked up at our house.
It started with hubby finding other things to do such as a beach walk, trip to the shops or a visit to my mother, and now he doesn't make excuses and just doesn't go, and politely deflects elders' enquiries.
This is great, and I hope it lasts!

I saw this in a documentary years ago and it bugged me when they published in the Isaiah book or whatever reference to Babylon. Like dudes, get your history straight!
